After a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Sally Faye Johnson, age 79, slipped her earthly bonds to meet her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on December 17, 2013. Preceding her in death are her parents and Chester and Alma (Rufledt) Johnson and dear friend Millard Strand. She is survived by sisters: Annette Antigua of Elk River MN, Marilyn Thames of Eau Claire and Laurie (Gerald Wright) Johnson of Hayward, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She began life in Bloomer Wisconsin and graduated Valedictorian in the class of 1952. She graduated with honors from St. Olaf College, class of 1957. Her master’s degree in dietetics started her 40 year career as a therapeutic dietician. She worked at the University of Kentucky Medical Center before enlisting in the USAF where she served at Selfridge AFB, MI and Carswell AFB, TX. Upon discharge she worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center before retiring to Rochester MN.
Although dedicated to her work, her greatest joy came from singing in her church choirs. She sang with Kansas City Trinity Lutheran Choir at Carnegie Hall. Another passion was traveling with friends to Germany, Scandinavia, Russia and other places. She was a dedicated friend and auntie, always making it home to celebrate holidays and get-togethers.
She is now off again celebrating the greatest trip she has ever had. She will be with her beautiful Savior and with friends and family that know and love the Lord. “The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”
The family wishes to thank the workers at Our House Memory Care Facility for their care and concern. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family with arrangements.
