Robert Smutney

Robert J. “Mr. Fix It” Smutney, age 84, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer. He was born September 10, 1926 in Oak Lawn, IL to Albert and Agnes (Riley) Smutney. He Married Lorraine Stark in 1948 in Chippewa Falls and Patricia Adrian in 1960 in Chippewa Falls. He served in the Navy during WWII and worked as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the New Auburn Fire Department. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed race cars, driving truck, roller skating, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sons: Robert “Mr. Fix It, Jr.” (Carla) Smutney of New Auburn and Jim Smutney of Bloomer; daughters: Linda (Michael) Waterhouse of Roscoe IL and Tina Smutney/Phillips of Murphysboro IL and Becky Smutney of Warsaw IL; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives: Lorraine and Pat; sons: Rocky, Endy and Terry Smutney; brother: Charles “Duke” Smutney; son-in-law: D J. Phillips.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer with David W. Olson officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Chetek American Legion. Interment of ashes will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 on Wednesday and up to the time of service on Thursday at The Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer.
