Robert J. Hanson, Sr., 91, of Muscatine, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Muscatine.
Robert was born on Feb. 11, 1920, in New Auburn, Wis., the son of Hans Sophus and Julia Pamelia Hermanson Hanson. He was a graduate of the New Auburn High School. He married Mildred Eleanor Gunn on Nov. 10, 1949, in Pine City, Minn. She preceded him in death. He had been a resident of Muscatine for two months, relocating from Wisconsin.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He worked as a truck driver, salesman and retired from the state of Wisconsin, where he worked as a meat inspector. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Eau Claire. He enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.
Those left to honor his memory include two sons, Robert J. Hanson Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Muscatine, and Barry Hanson of Grand Marais, Minn.; two daughters, Linda Hoepner and husband, Alan, of Hayward and Claudia Martin of Apple Valley, Minn.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:30 AM. Burial will take place in New Auburn Cemetery following the service.
