Oliver "Dean" Witt

Oliver “Dean” Witt, age 89, passed away on December 6, 2023, at Our House Assisted Living in Chippewa Falls, WI after a brief illness.

Dean was born on May 18, 1934, in Trego, WI to George “Bill” and Cora “Leona” (Feltman) Witt. In 1974 he married the love of his life, Vernell; and exactly one year after her passing, he went on to join her. Dean had one daughter from a previous marriage and inherited Vernell’s children that he loved as his own.

Dean was a proud Navy Veteran and member of the Bloomer American Legion. He was a Barber in Spooner, WI for most of his adult life. Dean was a true craftsman. People would stop in the shop just to check out his current wood carvings that he would do in his free time. He also loved to read, especially military related books. He was an avid collector over the years of stamps, military patches and coins. In his later years, he colored hundreds of beautiful mandalas.

Dean is survived by his children: DeAnne (Joe) Meyer of Trego, Lorie (Bud) Suhr of Bloomer, Joel (Terri) VanGuilder of Spooner and Judy Van Guilder of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren: Serryn, Rhea, Katrina, Kasie, Mollie, Brandon, Kristen, Jamie, Erin, John and Jessica.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Vernell Witt; parents: Bill and Leona Witt; son: Kim Van Guilder; and great grandson: Jesse De La Torre.

A military graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
