Mark A. Hassemer

Mark A. Hassemer, age 74, passed away on March 10, 2025, at his home.

Mark was born on July 22, 1950, in Chippewa Falls to Edward V. “Gabby” and Verdine L. (Sarauer) Hassemer. He graduated from Bloomer High School with the Class of 1968.

Mark raised a family with Rita (Lee) VanStelle for over 20 years. He was a member of The Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #18 and worked for Erv Smith Services in Eau Claire and later at Sheet Metal Enterprises in Chetek. Mark was a residential sheet metal fabricator responsible for the removal of old oil burners and the installation of new heating systems. Mark enjoyed the outdoors - camping, boating, water-skiing, fishing, annual deer hunting and a maple syrup connoisseur. He was very proud to have earned his pilot license and always looked forward to his time in the sky. After retirement, Mark enjoyed travelling, golfing and going on hunting trips. He liked to visit family in Alaska, where he went king salmon fishing and hiked one-time up Flattop Mountain. Mark will be remembered as a goofy grandpa and uncle, who was always up for anything that made someone smile.

Mark is survived by his daughters: Tammy (Garry) Hanley of Anchorage, AK and Jessica (Clint) Hooppaw of Apple Valley, MN; siblings: Thomas Hassemer of Bloomer, twin sister Marcia Avakian of Phoenix, AZ and Leanne Hassemer of Eau Claire; grandchildren: Amanda Hanley, Darin Hanley and Sydney Hooppaw; and also by a large extended family and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Verdine Hassemer; brother: Daniel Hassemer; and brother-in-law: Jim Avakian.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the North Catholic Cemetery in Bloomer. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Bloomer Memorial Golf Course.
