Obituary for Karl E. Elsner

Karl E. Elsner, age 84, passed away at the Hetzel Care Center in Bloomer on October 24, 2011. He was born on March 21, 1927 in Lunden, Holstein, Germany to Hugo and Helene (Crogman) Elsner. He served 35 months in the German Navy, spending 18 of those months as a prisoner of war. In 1951, he came to the United States, becoming a citizen in 1957. He married Shirley Albert in Cook County, Illinois on April 17, 1954. Karl worked in the building/renovation trade in the Chicago area for a number of years when he learned of a place for sale in Wisconsin. Karl and his wife became the owner/operators of Cedar Point Resort near Weyerhauser and also farmed near Weyerhauser and Island Lake. Karl loved the culinary arts and was known for his “rib-sticking” oatmeal. He also enjoyed games, music, entertainment, and a good cup of coffee with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley of Bloomer; sons: Hans (Pam) Elsner of New Auburn, Arnold Elsner of Bloomer and Karl Elsner, Jr. of Bloomer; daughter: Georgie (Clyde) Baier of Bloomer; grandchildren: Jonathan & Sarah Elsner; nieces: Karina, Julie and Jill; nephew: David.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Billy; one sister: Toni Luck.

Funeral Services will be held at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:00 PM with a visitation from 12:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will take place at the Island Lake Cemetery in the town of Big Bend.
