Jane A. Morrison, age 102, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Atrium in Bloomer, Wisconsin. She was born January 10, 1917 in Bloomer, WI, the daughter of Dr. John A. and Ella (Cooke) Morrison. She was a 1935 graduate of Bloomer High School, attended Miss Wood’s Kindergarten-Primary Training School in Minneapolis and graduated with a B.S. Degree from Eau Claire State Teacher’s College in 1940. She taught for three years in Stanley and Chippewa Falls. In 1943, Jane moved to Denver, CO, where she worked as a Recreation Director at Lowry AFB, Fitzsimons Army Hospital and at the Denver YWCA serving through WWII, the Korean War and the beginning of the Vietnam War. Returning to Bloomer in 1965, Jane worked as the Activity Director at Eagleton, Colfax and Cornell Nursing Homes until her retirement in 1981.
She was a lifetime member of 1st Congregational United Church of Christ, a 50 year member of Bloomer Order of the Eastern Star #216, a charter member of Maturity Matters, UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association, Bloomer Senior Citizens, Bloomer Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer in both the Maplewood Nursing Home and Hospital Gift Shop. She enjoyed music, animals, reading, traveling, nature, skiing and especially being with friends and relatives.
Jane is survived by five great-nieces, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister: Kathryn Rue and nieces: Nancy Byers and Kathryn Parrott.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Atrium Nursing Home located at 1840 Priddy St. in Bloomer. Private interment was in the Bloomer Cemetery.
