Hazel D. Mullen Johnson, age 92, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. She was born on June 7, 1920 in Saxton, WI to George and Louise (Knight) Youngren. She married Thorfin Mullen on March 24, 1940 and after his death she married Robert Johnson on April 2, 1977. She worked as a cook at the Bloomer Junior High School for many years. Hazel volunteered for the Kinship program and enjoyed working with children. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of WELCA. She was also one of the founding members of the Bloomer Garden Club. Hazel loved to garden, cook, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons: David (Susan) Mullen of Sacramento CA, and Sam (Linda) Mullen of Green Lake WI; one daughter: Margit (Mike) Moe of Rice Lake WI; four step-sons: Robert (Fanny) Johnson, Mike (Phyllis) Johnson, David Johnson, and Bill (Laurie) Johnson, seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several step-grand and step great-grandchildren.
She is Preceded in death by her parents; husbands Thorfin and Robert; son: Gilbert Mullen; one sister: Lorraine Kouba; one half brother: Alfred Hill.
