Fern G. Turner, age 94, passed away at MCHS Maplewood in Bloomer on Sunday, June 7, 2015. She was born in a log cabin near Alma on December 28, 1920 to Henry and Mary (DeWitt) Schmidt. She grew up in North Dakota, moved back to Bloomer where she graduated from Bloomer High School. Fern married Wilbert Turner at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer on September 12, 1938. She and her husband farmed in the Bloomer area for most of her life. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and WELCA.
She loved farming, especially caring for the animals. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, sewing, picking blueberries and blackberries. Playing cards was a favorite pastime, especially since Fern always seemed to have the winning hands! She loved her grand and great-grandkids, always having treats for them.
She is survived by her children: Karen (Art) Klingenberg of New Auburn, Dan (Linda) Turner and Steve (Judy) Turner both of Bloomer; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Mary Schmidt; husband: Wilbert; son: David; infant grandson: Nathan Turner; siblings: Fred Schmidt, Arthur Carr, Edith Peppin and Muriel Geissler
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer with a visitation from 9:30-11:00 before the service at the church. Interment will be in the Turner Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Turner Cemetery.
