Duane F. “Sonny” Coubal, age 92, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at his home in Bloomer.
Sonny was born on July 1, 1931, in Chicago, IL to Frank and Albina (Urban) Coubal. His family owned and operated the Gateway Inn until it was sold in 1976. He married Judith Boese on April 30, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bloomer. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Sonny owned and operated Northwest Coin Machine Company in Bloomer until he sold it to his sons in 1996.
Sonny enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage, cheering on the Packers, hunting and fishing which included many trips to Canada. He and Judy would spend their winters in Arizona where golfing and spending time with friends were always on the agenda. Sonny loved his family and they were always a priority for him.
Sonny is survived by his wife: Judy Coubal; sons: Jay (Nanette) Coubal and Brad (Bobbi) Coubal; grandchildren: Colin, Kyra, Katie and Drew Coubal; sisters: Diane (Gene) Johnson and Sandra (Larry) Culver.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Albina Coubal.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 4:00 PM at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer with a visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner on Monday, November 13 at 12:00 PM. Online condolences may be expressed at olsonfuneralhomebloomer.com
