Doris J. Gilles, age 86, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Care Partners in Bloomer. She was born November 17, 1923 in Sand Creek WI to Seph & Anna (Olsen) Peterson. She married Manley Davis on September 14, 1946 and together they raised their eight children. Manley passed away in 1971 and on June 15, 1974 she married George Gilles, bringing six more children to the family. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, canning, playing cards and other games and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by seven children: Barb (Richard) Petersen, Janice Bumgarner, Blaine (Barb) Davis, Victoria (Peter) Dachel, Loren Davis, Michael (Janet) Davis, Wendy (Duane) Loew; six step-children: Mary Gilles, George (Mary Lou) Gilles, Carol (Robert) Meyer, Ken (Ann) Gilles, James Gilles & Bruce (Mary Jane) Gilles; one brother: Edsel (Maggie) Peterson; one sister: Wanda (Don) West; five sisters-in-law: Vivian Peterson, Joan Peterson, Frances Hintzman, Sister Aquin Gilles & Viola Semanko; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Manley & George; two daughters: Rachel Ione Davis and infant, Beverly; one grandson: Billy Davis; one step-grandson: Vincent Meyer; five brothers: Orville, Russell, Walter, Jonas, & Alwood Peterson; three sisters: Adeline Christopherson & infants Clara, & Beatrice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer with Rev. Robert Hannemann officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church located at 1800 Jackson Street in Bloomer and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is in charge of arrangements.
