David R. Helin, age 78, passed away at the Chippewa Manor in August, 28, 2023. He was born on November 5, 1944 in Ironwood, MI to Anselm and Helmi (Makinen) Helin. He graduated from Hurley Wisconsin in 1962 and then proudly served in the US Navy. He married Shelby Ewings on July 8, 1967 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. He worked as a computer programmer for Bauman Construction of Hallie for many years. David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Throughout his life, David could always be found outdoors, running, biking, on the golf course or on the ski hills. Later in life, Shelby and David loved taking in the sites while hiking through the hills of Arizona. He was a gifted woodworker and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife: Shelby of Bloomer; daughters: Kristin (Keith) Hanson of Elk Mound, Karen (Timothy) Trowbridge of New Auburn and Karla (Scott) Sokup of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren: Klair and Kailey Hanson, Peyton and Madee Trowbridge, Griffen, Gretta and Grant Sokup; numerous other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Raymond (Ruth) Helin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 12:00 PM with a visitation from 10:00-12:00 at the Bloomer Senior Center, located at 2121 Duncan Road. Inurnment will be at the Rufledt Cemetery with Military Honors by the Bloomer American Legion/VFW and AMVETS. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
