Obituary for Darla K. Turner (Rubenzer)

Darla K. Turner, age 64, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Bloomer. On September 8, 2017, a beautiful sunny day, Darla wrote her own obituary while sitting on her porch. She was born December 12, 1953 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Jake and Doris (Springer) Rubenzer. The Rubenzer family lived in Tilden WI until 1963 when the family moved to Bloomer WI. Darla was the oldest and only girl of 4 siblings. She went to parochial school through 8th grade and graduated from Bloomer High School in 1971. Darla married her special man, Michael K. Turner, on December 22, 1984 in the middle of a snowstorm. Together they raised their daughter, Sara Marie...Darla says that “her and Mike did a good job raising Sara!” Sara gave them their nice son-in-law, Brett and blessed them with three beautiful granddaughters: Stella Kayann, Lilly Doris and Illa Marie. For Darla and Mike, the world revolves around the granddaughters...they believe the sun rises and sets by those 3 girls. Darla received her para-professional degree and went on to work at Chippewa County, Northern Center and CESA. She worked with disabled folks for over 30 years and loved every minute of it. After Darla retired from para-professional work, she kept herself busy and in a sense, never retired. She was well known for her beautiful crafts and loved playing cards, especially with the girls every-other Tuesday and at the Pines on Thursday. She also tended bar, was a caregiver, volunteered at the Catholic School and cleaned houses in her spare time.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Jake and Doris Rubenzer; and infant brothers: John and Jeff.

She is survived by her husband: Mike; her daughter: Sara (Brett) Nelson; granddaughters: Stella, Lilly and Illa; brothers: Ben (Deb), Dennis (Val) and Tony (Carol) Rubenzer; numerous other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of Darla’s life will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Pine’s Ballroom in Bloomer with a visitation from 3:00 PM until the time of service. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
