Corrine Maier, age 94, passed away November 17, 2017 at her home. Corrine was born on June 23, 1923 to William A. and Emilie (Gerike) Young in Augusta, where she was raised and graduated from Augusta High School. She received her B.A. in Home Economics from Stout Institute in 1944, and began teaching at Bloomer High School that fall.
Corrine married Edward Maier on June 3, 1948, and they settled in Bloomer, WI. She continued teaching part-time at New Auburn and Colfax High Schools. Later, she was a substitute teacher at Bloomer High School and a volunteer at St. Paul’s Catholic School.
Corrine was an excellent seamstress. Her love for sewing began at age 8, as an assistant to an Augusta tailor, and continued throughout her life. She enjoyed sewing for herself and family, and completed alterations until age 89 for many local people.
Corrine was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, PCCW, Homemakers, and was a 4-H club leader. She was an avid bridge player. She and Ed enjoyed traveling. They toured parts of North America and took trips to Hawaii, North Africa and Spain.
Corrine is survived by her children: James (Bonita) Maier of Bloomer; Barbara (Daniel) Graves of Elkhart, IN; Joel (Connie) Maier of Brooklyn Park, MN; five grandchildren, Jill (Benjamin) Smith, Mark (Angella) Maier; Jenessa, Mikaela and Mitchell Maier. She is further survived by brothers, David (Joan) Young of Denver, CO; Samuel (Corrine) Young of Black River Falls; brother-in-law Carl Thompson of Bloomer; sister-in-law Judith Young of Black River Falls; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband (October 31, 1995), parents, brother William F. Young; brothers-in-law Richard Maier, Frank Maier, Andy Carlson, Steve Lucas, Harold Solberg; sisters-in-law: Florence Carlson, Irene Walther, Roselle Lucas, Othelia Solberg, Agnes Thompson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Victor Feltes presiding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the North Catholic Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
