Obituary for Christine Steinmetz (Bowe)

Christine Steinmetz, age 98, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Atrium Health Care in Bloomer, with her family at her side. She was born to William and Katherine (Touissant) Bowe on the family farm in Tilden on November 21, 1918 in the middle of a huge snowstorm. She had many stories of working on the farm with Ma and Pa. She married Raymond Steinmetz on June 27, 1940 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls. They moved to Bloomer, where they owned and operated a car dealership and machine shop for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer and the Bloomer Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, making sauerkraut, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Raymond (Nancy) Steinmetz of Mesa Arizona, David (Margie) Steinmetz of Bloomer, Joyce (James) Schmidt of Bloomer, Kathleen (Michael) Baier of Bloomer and Wanda (Robert) Baier of Chippewa Falls; numerous grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Katherine Bowe; husband: Raymond; step-daughter: LaVerne (Clarence) Geissler; step-grandson: Kenneth Geissler; brothers: Oscar (Irene) Bowe and infant Stephan; sisters: Catherine (Sam) Calkins, Josephine (Floyd) Hallum, Helen Bowe, Geneva (Edward) Bowe, Marie (Keith) Prince, Sylvia Prince.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 12:00 PM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer with Father John Potaczek officiating. Interment will be in the South Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Friday.
