Obituary for Bernice M. Marek (Poirier)

Bernice M. Marek, age 98, passed away on July 22, 2014 at The Rose Garden in Bloomer. She was born November 9, 1915 in Chippewa County to Zera and Bertha (Kelm) Poirier. She married Henry Marek on November 26, 1938 in Stillwater. Bernice worked as an elementary school teacher and was a member of Chippewa Valley Retired Teachers, St. John’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s WELCA. She enjoyed teaching children, playing cards, canning, gardening, working at the church and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by three sons: Gary “Ticker” Marek of Almena WI, Larry (Barbara) Marek of Chisago City MN & Dennis (Kathy) Marek of Port Charlotte FL; two daughters: Bonita Kunsman of Palm Desert CA and Judi (Timothy) Arntz of West Hills CA; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Zera and Bertha Poirier; husband: Henry; infant son: Joe; brother: Melbert Poirier; Sisters: Beatrice Cloutier and Sylvia Fehr; daughter-in-law: Bette Marek.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 on Friday at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Please direct memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
