Basil “Bud” McCarty, age 85, of rural Bloomer died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at The Maple Wood in Bloomer. Bud was born in Scott County, Tennessee in the little town of Robbins. He was the fourth oldest of all six children born to Basil and Minnie (Mittler) McCarty. He and his family later lived in Maryville and Oak Ridge. Orphaned at age 16, he made his way to California where he lived for many years in close proximity to his brothers and a sister. Later, he and his sister, Katherine moved back to Tennessee where he met and married his wife, Yvonne. They moved to Eau Claire where they resided for several years before moving to Bloomer. Bud worked in Eau Claire at Pinehurst Foods and Culver’s. Later he worked for Auto Stop (now Holiday) in Bloomer. He enjoyed meeting people and always had a cheerful word for the customers. He was an avid animal lover and his home always had room for dogs and an occasional stray cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings: Harry, Albert, Katherine Ondrik, Kenneth and Jimmy.
He is survived by his wife: Yvonne.
A private memorial service will be held in Tennessee at a later date.
